The Fairfax County Police Department announced that Meredith Capets, 36, of Alexandria, was served a warrant for simple assault and turned herself in on Tuesday, Jan. 3 to face the charge.
Investigators say that on Thursday, Dec. 8, an employee at the elementary school in Falls Church spotted Capets assaulting a student with disabilities, which was then immediately reported to school administrators.
Following a nearly month-long investigation, Capets turned herself in at the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center on Tuesday and was released on an unsecured bond after the warrant was served. No return court date has been announced.
She has been placed on immediate administrative leave at Glen Forest Elementary School, according to officials.
Anyone with information regarding the incident has been asked to contact the Fairfax County Police Department Major Crimes Bureau by calling (703) 246-7800.
